Consumer behaviour plays a very important role in understanding the market and how consumers are persuaded to purchase products. How behavioural factors apply when an individual decides to buy a new property (Real Estate) and more particularly, green buildings, is something that has scarcely been investigated. The purpose of this research is to identify which are the factors that influence consumer behaviour towards green buildings using a systematic review of the literature. Based on that, we present a descriptive and a content analysis of the selected articles. In total nine factors have been identified and divided into two groups – Individual Differences and Environmental Influences. These factors are also analysed in the light of the Consumer Decision Process Model from Blackwell et al (2005) and the direction of influence that each factor apply towards purchase intention and consumer behaviour is determined. The results confirm the degree of novelty of this subject The findings also unfold a model of factors that can be used to understand green building consumers´ purchase intention and behaviour. Building on this, future research directions is given in the final section.
