Resumo

A globalização é um conjunto complexo de processos que está sempre em desenvolvimento e expansão, desde o momento em que iniciou. Trata-se da integração, em escala mundial, das relações sócio espaciais, econômicas e culturais; este processo impulsiona as mudanças da estrutura social. Este ensaio objetiva explorar as interconexões entre os riscos e incertezas no tempo da globalização à luz das teorias de Ulrich Beck e Anthony Giddens. A partir destes autores, busca-se discutir convergências e divergências de suas teorias e a compreensão das transformações sociais e culturais e principalmente como as ameaças socioeconômicas e ambientais afetam a vida cotidiana da sociedade pós-moderna.

Globalization is a complex set of processes that has been constantly evolving and expanding from the moment it started. It is about the integration, on a world scale, of socio-spatial, economic and cultural relations; this process drives changes in the social structure. This essay aims to explore the interconnections between risks and uncertainties in the time of globalization in light of the theories of Ulrich Beck and Anthony Giddens. From these authors, we seek to discuss convergences and divergences of their theories and the understanding of social and cultural transformations and especially how socioeconomic and environmental threats affect the daily life of postmodern society.
