Reumo

With economic growth, the anthropogenic emission of gases and particles tends to intensify progressively, the main atmospheric pollutants found are carbon monoxide (CO), hydrocarbons (HC), particulate matter (MP), and carbon oxides. nitrogen (NOx). One of the main factors responsible for these emissions is road freight transport, which is an essential activity for the country's economy, as several economic sectors depend on its activities.
We question how much greenhouse gases are eliminated by trucks fleet of a medium city in Brazil? The present study aimed to analyze the characteristics of cargo transportation in the city of Uberlândia and to quantify the main air pollutants.
According to data collected in Uberlândia, of the 1,738 carriers, only 80 companies and 1 cooperative, carry out monitoring of atmospheric pollutants emission, which is carried out together with the program Despoluir and SETTRIM. These companies result in a total of 2503 cargo vehicles, with an average age of 9.8 years, thus 31% of the vehicles use diesel S10 and 69% S500 (SETTRIM, 2017). The use of diesel S-500, makes the vehicles have a higher rate of atmospheric emissions, thus causing greater impacts on the environment (BRAZIL, 2017).
A bibliographic review was performed, based on the definition of the main objective, in view of the need for information that made it possible to verify the variables necessary to perform the calculation of the pollution index for the city of Uberlândia. In order to calculate carbon monoxide (CO), hydrocarbons (HC), and nitrogen oxides (NOx), the Environmental Protection Agency - EPA accounting standards were used. carried out by the University of São Paulo together with Petrobras.
Total emission of carbon monoxide (CO) generated in one year: 27.2 kg / year. Total emission of nitrogen oxide (NOx) generated in one year: 13.82 kg / year. Total hydrocarbon emission (HC) generated in one year: 7.6 kg / year. Total emission of particulate matter less than 2.5 µm in diameter (MP2.5) per km driven 274.2 g / km.
It was possible to realize that most city freight companies do not have an effective environmental management system, so they must make use of tools that lead and motivate freight companies to integrate with existing resources and available.
